In November 2023 our latest group of Form 4 students sat for many hours in very hot conditions to take their vitally important exams. The exams were 10 key subjects that covered all aspects of the Kenyan curriculum. 14 students in all, completed their exams at St Cornelieus Ramula Odowa School. Below is a photo taken of the group a couple of years ago.

Each student's marks are aggregated to give one final essential grade in what is called their KCSE result (Kenyan Certificate of Secondary Education). This single grade can be each student's 'passport' to a good career and their family's reward for their sacrifices to give their son or daughter this vital opportunity. For most if not all of these pupils, completing their full secondary education would have been impossible without our SSF sponsors.

So how did they do?

St Cornelius Ramula Odowa was specially selected by SSF because although it is a school in a poor rural area, the Head and the teaching staff have consistently achieved the results with their pupils that reflect the students' true potentials considering their home limitations. But this year's results have got to be the best yet from the SSF sponsorship point of view.

DEPHLA

Dephla and Columbus both attained a B+ and so many others should also be heading to University and College with their own community support and of course Government university student loans, (HELB loans). A B+ grade can actually allow a student entry to one of Kenya's top universities. So many congratulations to both Dephla and Columbus but also to all the rest. To each of you, you have done exactly what you promised: to work as hard as you could to make both your family and SSF proud of you.

You have certainly done that.

FOOTNOTE: Juliet Nanji joined our group late when a couple had moved on to schools elsewhere for family reasons:

Juliet's grade B was also very impressive because she got no help until her final year when a vacancy became available. Her determination and intelligence was obvious to her teachers and consequently they had no hesitation in recommending her for support in her final year,
