In 2022, all our senior students not only had to complete their very difficult final year but also complete the second part of their penultimate third year which was left over from 'lockdown' school closures.
This meant a 12 month intensive period of study with very short breaks in between terms. Food prices had shot up with general world inflation so to compensate each also grew 2 crops of maize to feed their families whilst coping with very demanding school work.
The Kenyan exam system produces one single final grade which is the summation of how each student has done in exams in approximately 12 major school subjects. Each subject is covered to the UK A'level standard but with less study time on each. A very demanding curriculum! Any final grade above a B+ is very rare. B grades in general open routes to university whilst C grades are required for a variety of College courses. A D- is the minimal pass.
So how did they do? The known results so far are for 3 of our Ramula Students and 2 of the Holo girls. All were selected for sponsorship because of tremendous home difficulties including health issues related to Covid.

Jake with Effie and Helen at Holo School.
Both girls got very impressive C grades
Effie has been sponsored since her second year. She has been looked after by her Grandmother and she in turn has looked after her Grandmother. Helen joined us in her third year after her family suffered at the hands of Covid and she would otherwise had to have left school.

Janet in Form 4 at Ramula got an amazing grade B. In her 'thank you' letter she shows that she is determined to improve the conditions for her whole family.
Their living conditions are far from ideal and growing sufficient food to feed all is a worrying struggle.
University? Who knows but Janet certainly deserves a chance in the years to come.

Ely Ariri has impressed ever since he joined us in Form 1. Every result has shown how hard he has worked and how he has applied himself. So a final Grade B- is some reward for all he has been through.
Elly lives with his mother and 4 siblings in a 2 room small mud house. As he says it is not an ideal environment for study but somehow he coped. He also was a very impressive crop grower when he joined our sponsored crop project. His maize would have helped a lot with feeding all 6 of them

Emily got a very creditable C+ grade. Like Janet and Elly she has worked so hard under very difficult conditions but additionally when she had time she learned how to communicate information about our students' performances via WhatsApp. She also got involved heavily with organising the Crop Project and still found time to help others rebuild their family homes. A rather amazing young student who really deserves her success.
