School days can be very difficult even when home & family life can be very happy and supportive. Secondary school takes academic study to new and very challenging levels in a wide range of subjects such as physics, chemistry, maths, biology, history and government, modern languages to name but a few. So to find yourself at secondary school in a year group of 100 other students could be very intimidating to all but the most confident.

Nanji is in Form 3, whilst Ruth is in Form 2 at St Cornelius Ramula Odowa and both face very challenging situations at home with family incomes not matching the cost of many of the basics let alone monthly school fees. But what is perhaps the most amazing fact about these 2 young students is that despite all their problems Ruth has managed to attain 6th out of 98 students and is currently top of her class in her year group, whilst Nanji is top out of exactly 100 students in the whole of her year group.

Nanji:

Both Nanji and Ruth were highly recommended to join the SSF sponsorship family but competition for the limited number of places was intense & both just missed out at the beginning of this school year. Yet another setback for each but neither let it stop them from doing their best at school and both somehow managed to achieve such impressive results in their first term progress tests. When this was drawn to our attention by Calvince, the Director of Studies, something had to be done and I am now pleased to say that both have joined the SSF group. I think that Nanji's smile rather shows what it means to her. (Detail on Ruth to follow)
