Erastus first first came to our attention one stormy Kenyan night when this thin bright eyed 16 year old appeared at Tom Bilo's door. Tom had invited him and although it was late Tom was very relieved when he showed up as apart from the Bilo family he had very few others he could turn to.

Since then not only has he excelled at his final school exams and his university degree at Kenya's top university but he has invariably been behind Tom doing a whole range of vital jobs that Tom would never have had time to do.

On leaving university he was immediately offered his first teaching post and this short account fills in what has happened in since he started teaching as a Maths and Science teacher:

I'm grateful for how far you brought me throughout my education life.

Immediately upon completion of my coursework, I was employed in Point of Grace High school where I developed my career for sometime. The pay was ksh15000 all of which ended on meals, clothes and rent. It was enough to pay all my needs but not for savings. The school had a student population of 215 and and teaching was very enjoyable. There was good cooperation between the students, teachers and management. Welfare of the teachers was well taken care of.

Unfortunately, I wanted to grow and build myself. My former school was much preoccupied yet I couldn't save anything. It was therefore mandatory for me to seek a greener pasture. My new school has a population of about 2700 and its a pure boys school boarding. Work is much, pay the pay is ksh18000 per month. Most of the foods are found within the school and I only pay the HELB loan and rent. Students are active and average and very positive. So teaching has become more enjoyable.
