Cynthia came to our attention about 7 years ago. Her home situation was difficult to say the least and she spent most of her time at Tom's Bilo's compound where she seemed to instinctively understand what needed to be done to help run the little community. She always led by example in a very impressive way. Simply, if anything needed to be done, Cynthia would make sure that it was done and to a high standard. She completed her final school exams with a good grade which allowed her to apply for a nurse training course but funding was a potential problem. It was at this point that a bequest from a sponsor's mother was donated to SSF with the suggestion that it could be spent on health related matters. A perfect match and Cynthia's wish became a reality. 2 years on and after some very hard work, we can report the following:

Hi,,!!! I am Cynthia. I am now a qualified nurse. I pursued health records and information technology and managed to be among the top 5 students. I have done basic conventional medicine procedure. - Receiving patients and taking pre- tests. - Taking temperatures, pressure , height and weight and pass data online to the doctor on duty. - keeping of hospital records after treatment and retrieving them.

The lecturer said that I am well placed to be lecturer in future. I can work in private or public hospitals through NGO'S ,AMREF,,KEMRI and many others. I can as well teach in medical colleges. The lecturer suggested that if I do a diploma,,,this will help me open my marketability.

However Cynthia continues to work with our SSF students. She helps mentor them especially girls. But she also supervises farm work and visit schools on behalf of Tom Bilo. She is just one of a number of past SSF students who want to give others the opportunity that they have had.
