A New School Year and now for the Younger Ones to get a Life Changing Chance thanks to our Sponsors

Paul Mike Geofrey Peter Hulda, Pamela Tracy Rose Maxmilla and Elvis - our new 10 Form 1s.

To get accepted at a secondary school all these students will have sat 10 exams in their final year at primary school and gained an aggregate score of around 300+ marks out of a possible 500. As the exams are so demanding a score as low as 200 may result is a secondary place being offered and a score of 400 is rather exceptional. Hulda for example scored 305 whereas Paul got 339. Considering their home situations these marks are amazing under the circumstances

However this success can place shattered families under considerable financial burdens. This is Hulda's story.

Calvince - Director of Studies at St Corneliues Ramula Odowa Secondary School: This is Hulda Atieno. One of the lucky girls who was picked for sponsorship by S.S.F. We learnt yesterday that the mum is completely paralised. Can't even walk and the husband is not in the picture. Her sister decided to take her in and nurse her. What a scene ! Sad indeed. Thanks S.S. F.

Once the student gets accepted by a school, the parents or guardian has to equip the child with school uniform and this can be very expensive for a family on a very limited budget and of course this is just the start because each month at school brings bills for school fees!!

Mike's Grandmother told this story:

This is Mike Tyson. The grand mother on hearing the grandson had been selected to join S.S.F sponsorship, came to school to appreciate us. Here is what she told us. The boy's dad left when he was 2 months old and has never been heard from to date. The mum abandoned the boy at 4 months and likewise has never been seen again. The grandmother who is also a widow has single-handedly taken care of the boy. To help join Form 1, she sold 3 goats, several trees, and 5 chicken, bought all requirements but could not raise fees.
