Our Story

Who we are
Small Steps Forward (SSF) is not just a charity, it is a partnership between communities. Friendships between communities were formed during an educational partnership scheme that connected a school in Shropshire with a school in Miriu. As a result of these friendships, SSF was founded by a few determined teachers (both from the UK and Kenya) who saw the potential in young Kenyan students who could not cope with the financial burden of a secondary education. The original charity intended to support a handful of young people (pictured left)... but we just kept growing!
What we do
- Our sponsorship program now supports over 40 students through their Secondary education at three schools around Miriu.

- The orphanage in Miriu provides a refuge for orphans or children from destitute families, supporting them to attend and succeed at school.

- We also aim to support the local community through small-scale strategic projects such as the feeding program for local children.
